This is the first blog in a series, covering the collaborative brewing that the Liverpool Beer Collective is undertaking as part of the forthcoming Liverpool Beer Week. We were delighted when Black Lodge Brewing agreed to set a date up with us, given that they will be really busy in the run up to the period of the Beer Week - the Liverpool Craft Beer Expo will be in full swing and they will have a Tap Room Taster event on the final day of the Liverpool Beer Week (Sunday 29th July). |
The brew day began before LBC members arrived, given that the beer was set to be an Imperial stout, the mash started quite early. Showing up with a flat white for Black Lodge's Head Brewer Sean, proved to be a good move too. A touch of gentle hop bitterness in the kettle added to the chocolately wort, some lactose for sweetness and an addition of Morello cherries has given a slightly sweet but smooth Imperial Stout. Updates from Black Lodge suggest that we are in for a slightly sweet, fruity and deep treat which is the strongest of our collaboration brews at 8%, but likely to be amongst the most delicious and different.
As ever, the brewday was great fun and we learned a little more about brewing from Head Brewer, Sean Langton, about how Black Lodge make their great beers. We can't wait to work with them once again.
