On March 29th 2018, several members of the Collective swung by Timberwolf Grind & Tap, just a few minutes’ walk down South Road (towards the coast) from Waterloo train station; the occasion was a Tap Take Over by Dig Brew Co, a relatively new brewery based in Digbeth, Birmingham. The event took the majority of the Collective by surprise somewhat, as very few of us realised that Timberwolf had actually branched out from being solely a coffee house. It's not often a place like this dips into the craft beer scene! |
The bar still has all the hallmarks of a great coffee bar; warm lighting, chalkboards describing all manner of wonderful and unique coffees available, plus an abundance of delicious-looking baked snacks. Eventually our eyes rested upon the recently introduced keg taps on the back wall of the bar.
The beers from Dig Brew Co themselves were great. Very much in the modern style, with most of the pales looking very juicy and murky in the glass, yet with a pleasant lingering bitterness to each that set them apart from other New England style beers being released right now. There was also a good example of a Helles lager and a robust stout to round out a list of six beers available.

Though this was a one-off event, it certainly seemed to go well and we would certainly be interested in a return visit to Timberwolf at some stage, especially with it being in the vicinity of Crosby beach! The bar is incredibly dog-friendly, so if you and your fluffy friend have been for a run on the beach, what better way to recover than with a great coffee or beer!
